Embargo on the MP Yves Kisombe
JED, UNPC, OMEC and ANECO appeal for an angry marching on next Friday towards the People’s Palace
It is on the initiative of the Journalist
in Danger (JED), an independent organization of the defense and the promotion of the press liberty, the responsible of the media organizations and main directors of Medias in Kinshasa met on Tuesday, August 23rd at the JED Headquarter.
The aim of their meeting was to exchange on the stakes of the situation prevailing for the time being on the sector of Medias after the nomination of the 15 members of the CSAC in order to find out means of which they will really defend the rights of journalists during the electoral period.
This meeting is due to the mounting of the political pressure and the multiplication of intolerance acts, threatens and aggression of journalists during the exercise of their functions. As illustration and quoting only the case which has happened lately, the organizations of the Medias denounced strongly the aggression of the journalist Serge Kembila, cameraman at the Radio Television of the Group L’Avenir during the meeting of the political party PPRD, the one on power at the Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa.
Then JED, Journalist in Danger, the National Union for the Congolese Press-(UNPC), the Observatory of the Congolese Media (OMEC), the Association of the Congolese Editor (ANECO) turned Longley on the file concerning the grave threatens and insults recently addressed on the journalist Eugenie Ntumba, desk responsible at RSTV1 by the Member of Parliament Yves Kisombe known as member of the President Majority . After having followed the audio cassette of those insults which have been abundantly casted on the internet, the professionals of Medias were chocked and scandalized by the bad behavior of the Honorable Yves Kisombe, national Member of Parliament.
Considering what has happened, they have decided to start an embargo on the person of Yves Kisombe for a period of six months. He will not pass on the television, the radio even on the printing press and then to make a chain of solidarity around the journalist Eugenie Ntumba.
In addition the professionals of the Congolese Medias call upon a great mobilization of all journalists to deposit the memorandum after a anger marching, in which they bag for the sending out of Yves Kisombe from the Parliament . This is a way to send a strong message to the Congolese political class and then to the on going institutions on the determination of defending their profession and also the press liberty during this crucial period of election.
